dainty strider

Unbearably hot. That pretty much described the days leading up to Tuesday's much welcome rain, and explains why it was that Baxter hadn't gone on walkies for what seemed like forever. So maybe, just maybe, tiny chumley wouldn't mind getting wet for a chance to walk about and reacquaint himself with the smells of his neighborhood.

Big boyfriend suited up our unsuspecting boy for what would be this dachshund's first real walkies in the rain.

Fresh from the cover of the garage, tiny boyfriend met the occasional sputtering of miniscule rain droplets with all the enthusiasm of a kid going to the dentist. Stubborn paws dug in when the first raindrops hit their target, giving way to a resigned dainty four paw walk that left my boy trailing so far behind me that the drips from my generously sized golf umbrella only added to tiny chumley's predicament.

Yikes, I'll never get Baxter to walk in the rain again at this rate, I thought to myself.

Thankfully, all it took was the fresh scent of Something Interesting to put the bounce back in Baxter's step, and by the time we were on the homestretch, Baxter's gait returned to its happy jaunty state and his upright tail gently bobbed to and fro like a buoy in the ocean.

walking in the rain ain't so bad, he would later tell me at bedtime, but hey let's skip the bath afterwards next time, ok?

Ike thinks he's going to melt if he gets wet in the rain (and, God forbid, his paws get wet!). He acts like the wicked witch of the west!!

I think we all hate to have water fall on us.
