the pact

Baxter and I have a pact.  That he will never leave me and I will never leave him.  And I know it's official, because we shake on it every day.  Shaking multiple times, using both paws and hands to be extra sure and even sealing it with a snackie and a kiss. Because it is that important.  Because it simply has to be.

Yet despite our best efforts, I know there will come a day when one of us won't be able to hold up our end of the bargain.   When one of us must say goodbye and join his brothers before him.  But I hope it is not for a very very very very long time.

Rest in peace, sweet Maggie, and the warmest of hugs to Joey and his dad.

A tough day for Carson indeed. It isn't easy saying good-bye to a friend, no matter how many legs they have.

Oh no! Poor sweet Maggie. Tears in my eyes. Kirby will get extra hugs and kisses and treats tonight.

I know exactly what you mean because Oscar and I have the same pact. I feel so sad when someone loses a special dear fur friend. :(

Molly was in the midst of begging for my breakfast (she finishes my cereal everyday) when I read your post and then Carson's. Boy, did she make out like a little bandit today... (not that she would deliberately use tragedy to her own benefit or anything ;-)

I made Baron and Duchess promise me that they would stay with me forever last night as I cried for Maggie and Joey and Carson. If it only it was that easy and a promise would keep them with us forever.

I feel so terrible for Maggie's family ... it is such a horrible thing to experience, temporarily over-riding the years of joy and love. I've been through it myself a few times- and the heart pain never changes.
I pretty much expect that I'll have to be medicated when the time comes that Milo and I have to say goodbye. But like your momma, Baxter, I wish it to be a very very very very very long time away!
For now he'll just have to put up with some extra hugs, kisses, and cookies.

Hi Baxter and Baxter's Mom and Dad - thanks so much for the beautiful post - love the pact.
It's been a tough couple of days, but all the support certainly has made things a little easier. Maggie is so missed.
