dapper doxie dud: annabelle's lady in red

dearest annabelle,
totally luv the dragon,
hope u love your dud!

- baxter, 3.4 years old, taking a break
from squirrel hunting to model annabelle's new dapper doxie duds.

Meet lovely Annabelle, a self described sweet tomboy of black and tan smooth doxie whose mom noticed that Annabelle's regular harness had rubbed a raw spot under one of her armpits (Annabelle, not her mom!). Ever the sweet girl, Annabelle didn't complain at all about the owie, but Annabelle's mom decided it was high time to treat her girl to a dapper doxie dud, one of the girly but not too frou frou kinds that would turn heads but not undermine Annabelle's tomboy status with her toyfriends. Somethin like Molly's patchwork dud, which Annabelle's mom really liked, but in reds with an ever so slight touch of blue. The result? This fun mix of velvets and cottons, and even a splash of hand dyed fabric, all bound in a cheery cherry red denim and lined in soft t-shirt cotton, embellished with an oblong baroque freshwater pearl. A little lady in red.

What's that? What happened to the Annabelle tag? Coco Chanel said it best, "Look in the mirror and take one thing off". Annabelle's dud was a little too frou frou with it, and so I left it off, drilling a hole hopefully large enough so that Annabelle can wear it on her collar, or perhaps her winter coat. Because I say, "No coat is complete without a tiny bit of bling."

Annabelle is beautiful! And that harness is goregous, love the shade combination and the gold thread, looks like a piece from a wonderful victorian quilt. She'll never get rubbed raw again, hooray!

Simply beautiful. One of these days, when the floors are DONE and the furniture put back where it belongs, Mom will get her act together and finish our measurements on the samples you sent 87 million years ago!!!! (Mom is trying to say it's a blonde moment, but we know the truth!!!)

We LOVE it!! It's so pretty! I can't wait to see it in person, and know that Annabelle will be the envy of her obedience school classmates! I guess there are some advantages to being a small dog--after all, it'd take a whole lot of fabric to make dapper St. Bernard duds! :) Plus we know she'll be comfortable--no more rubbing! She certainly didn't like being chased around the house with alcohol swabs and antibiotic ointment after we discovered her owies! (We found a different harness to use in the meantime, but figured after all that she'd definitely earned some designer duds!)

Now the hunt is on for a leash that lives up to the gorgeousness of the duds--I think I saw a deep red leather leash at our local pet store that will work nicely. (After all, a girl has to coordinate!)

And of course the bling will be put to good use, more than likely on one of her many collars. I'll be sure to share pictures of her modeling once we get the package--I can't wait for the mailman to bring it!

aw you guys sure know how to make a gal feel good! :)

hee, no problemo agnes! I hear ya on getting everything done.

sio, if only humans were as easy to dress as doxies! robin and i have been known to dabble in human duds..did you ever see our studio jackets? they were great for knockin around in or dressy, depending on what you wore with it. i'm sure we'll have a few at bucktown left over from our heyday with that. it was kinda hard to offer ready to wear for the human crowd cuz all our stuff is one of a kind, especially when dyed fabric is involved and when you're dealing with us. Patterns, what patterns? :)

Oh Jenn, that red leather leash sounds perfect! A girl can't have too many accessories!! I do have more red denim in case you need a matching leash. Just bought the metal hardware to start experimenting more with that.

Hey alicia - do I still have a valid email for you?

Happy Weekend! :)
