dear diary,
today i'm recovering from yesterday because it seems like i ran a jillion and one miles yesterday. but don't feel sorry for me because it was totally like the best day ever! first in the morning, mom let me hunt in the backyard and - YES - i found a rabbit to chase!! mom thought the rabbit was kinda young and inexperienced because it kept running and running around didn't seem to know how to squeeze escape through the fence. all the better for me because i must have lapped the yard like 5 times trying to catch that thing. super cool, i know. i would have been happy with just that, but guess what, when he had to water the garden, dad let me go hunting, too, and the second time i actually found a baby bunny!! something inside me told me to take it in my mouth and make it squeak. oh what a wonderful warm and wiggly squeak it was!!! baby bunnies are like the best toys ever!! i'm not sure why dad reacted like he did but he came rushing over and made me drop it and put me inside the house. it must have scurried away because he couldn't find it when he went back to look for it. i overheard something about being banned from hunting in the backyard for a few weeks til the bunnies are grown but i don't understand what that means. all i know is, it took like forever for me to calm back down from all my excitement, and even after eating rawhide, i still sat right by the back door, begging everybody who walked by to open it just enough so i could go back outside and look for my new bunny toy.
So okay, like that wasn't enough, later i chased my friend madeline all over the house like five times and got so tuckered out again i stayed in my kitchen bed while dinner was being prepared without anybody reminding me. then just when things were looking down on my evening walk because i barked my head off at these big dogs that i wanted to keep their their distance, two puppy mini wiener dogs join the gathering and life was super again! i LOVE being the big kielbasa of the wiener pack!! so i played with little nine month old sasha and her teeny tiny brother, four month old jasper, til almost dark. Then on our way home, i chased one last rabbit back into the woods. I am lovin life!! :)
toodles,
b.

The trick to catching rabbits is you have to hunt real quiet, then spring at them from the side. I've caught a rabbit and a bird. Also, I am a badass. You shouldn't expect to be the greatest dachshund hunter in the world, like I am, on your first try. It's also wise to bite off the head first and hide it somewhere in the yard so that if your humans take it away, you can always have seconds later.
