das squirrel

With the heat and humidity of summer well upon us, tiny chumley has developed his own method of conserving energy, like on yesterday's hunt, when all he did was stand, look, and listen for the rustle of squirrels, rather than galump aimlessly about in the thick, soupy air.

The summer hunt is a slow, tactical affair for the little kielbasa, much like sitting in a submarine under the ocean, waiting for that blip on the radar screen. Come on squirrels, I know you're out there. Just one jump from tree to tree, and I've got you.

Good job conserving energy. We've taken to watching from the window and the running out into the heat when we see one!

Mmmmm - that looks like a lovely cool forest glade. In actuality, it probably feels more like a steamy tropical rain forest - but at least the pictures look cool and inviting.

Hey to our Hot friend Baxter!
Stay cool out there! We're loving our new green A/C & furnace combo (we'll we think we'll like the furnace part in winter). Just think--12 weeks ago we had 60" of snow!

Hugs, Kate & Allie

My first summer in town, I took Minnie for a walk, not realizing at first just how hot and humid it was, even at 9 a.m. (Oh, how I naive I was! lol) It sort of snuck up on us and by the time we got back, she was metling -- she splayed out on the kitchen floor to cool off. In a panic ("OMG, what did I do to her?!"), I resorted to running a couple of inches of cold water in the tub, plunked her in there and splashed some on her belly and dribbled it on her back. I left her standing there for a bit.

The next time we went for a walk? She came in and sat by the tub. lol Sometimes, she'd even jump in while the water was running.
