It's been hot and muggy lately, the kind of days where we try to stay inside in the coolness of the simulated cave that is our house in summer time, with most of the blinds opened only enough for the little kielbasa to sun himself or perform his daily kitty perch surveillance routines. No more easy breezy romps through the flea market or thrift store shopping marathons this time of year. Not even walkies, not at least until after dark or early morning, when the roads and sidewalks have cooled enough for little black padded paws to skip along as they always do in search of bunnies and squirrels.
This time of year is always a bit of an adjustment for us, but especially so for Baxter, who still gets a twinkle in his eye in the early evening, trying to rally us for the walkies he thinks should be happening exactly then, like it always has. I've been a patient boy, he'll tell me with pleading eyes. Are you SURE it's not time for walkies yet?

B -- I *love* to see the bunnybunnybunnies, too (though probably not for the same reason as you!) and I've found that the early morning/late evening walkies are the best time to see them munching on some clover. I know doxies don't excel at patience (hmph!) but if you can hang in there, you'll likely be rewarded big-time. (Though hopefully only *seeing* bunnies and not *catching* them ...)
I wouldn't be able to say no to these eyes...
Yes, Oskar's internal 'walk time clock' goes off between 5pm and 6pm, but his temperature gauge isn't in sync. So, we put him off until dusk when its usually cooler. But once he gets it in his head that its time to go, he stays glued to me, whining and letting out little sharp barks or jumping on my leg. Just say the word 'walk' or 'go' and the screaming begins...no turning back at that point. What a hoot!
I would like to live in Camelot... where it is always 70 degrees. Wouldn't you Baxter???
I don't think I could say no to that little face... Molly doesn't much care to walk. Occasionally she will join us, but I often have to carry her after a just a block or so. However, her internal clock is synched for dinner time. She moves to her lair under the table that serves as a kitchen island at about 4:30 PM in anticipation of her 5 PM dinner. No such thing as being late for dinner in our house - Molly wouldn't allow it!
Hi Baxter,
We hope you can resume ur regular walk soon! ^^
Hi, Baxter!
I know how you feel!
All these days we have been having 100-110 degrees!
Problem is my mom does not like to go out when is dark. So, just little walkies everyday trying to find the shadow!
Kisses and hugs

The same thing is true for us here in Orlando. If we don't wake up at 7am to go for our walk it is just too hot to go back out until 7 or 8 at night. We have to spend the day having fun inside the house which is why it's lucky that our mom has a lot of socks! Heehee
