evening watch

All it takes is one spying of squirrels at a window to keep Baxter glued there for hours, ever hopeful that his backyard frenemies will return so he can bark at them again. Or better yet, so he can convince us that the squirrel threat level is great enough to warrant an outdoor patrol. A chasing of such dire necessity that sometimes Baxter's paws slip out from under him as he scurries down the deck steps, whacking his chest into the patio, then scrambling on without missing a beat.

War has no time for casualties, no time for the weary to rest. No time, for little dogs to keep us company anymore while we eat dinner. Duty calls.

B -- you passed up the dinner table to squirrel watch?! I mean, you *look* like a dachshund, but now I'm starting to wonder ... =.)

P.S. Your mom has inspired me to drag out the sewing machine and get a little crafty again -- nothing nearly as awesome as your DDDs, but I did reconfigure one of those stupid romper (shorts + jumper = dumb) things into a very cute top.

hahaha! Shelby does that, too. Then when it gets "bad enough" she calls for backup and Milly goes running out as well. Too cute! I just love his little stool at the window.

We would give up treats for squirrel patrol too.
Love Ruby & Penny
Pees - Love the Cynthia Rowley blouses. Did you use a coverstitch machine for your binding. I am going to try the pattern this weekend, using my coverstich for the binding.

That'd be the day that Molly gave up begging at the dinner table for squirrel patrol... Molly has her priorities in order, Baxter!

this is just like Ammo. Except in his case he parks himself at the openings of the groundhog holes as the farm - hoping and praying one of the groundhogs will venture out.

A perfect squirrel perch you've got there Baxter! And you don't look too emaciated from keeping your eyes peeled for hours on end. Extra nutritious rawhide perhaps?

Oskar has discovered the rather large toads that have taken up residence in our yard, but he doesn't know what to do with them. Do you have any of those?

oooh kerri i wanna see your top sometime! i just doctored up a dress i got from target - how dare they ruin the lines by putting unnecessary and unflattering horizontal drawstrings where they don't belong! oh, and baxter says even though he is a dachshund, sometimes a superdog has got to make his sacrifices for the greater good ;)

aw, I bet baxter would enjoy some hunting backup. luckeeeee!

hey ruby n penny! Isn't coverstitch kind of what you often see on the bottom of tees where it looks like they used a double needle on the finished side? I'm having a hard time seeing how that would work for the arm and neck holes, but I can't want to see what it looks like when you're done! My serger doesn't do coverstitch, but luckily I've had tons of experience now with binding things and so the neck hole and arm holes are all bound similar to - gasp - binding a dapper doxie dud! except they use single fold binding and dapper duds use double folded binding for thickness and sturdiness. I didn't follow the hole binding instructions completely since my penchant for inexactitude is better served by not making the binding ring first. If that makes any sense. Like I join the binding ends together after sewing most of the binding down on the first pass. I also flared out the sides from the armpit to the hip, and finished the bottoms with side vents. The pattern really is easy, once I got past accepting that the size number to use for the pattern is never the size I buy in the store. (Talk about otherwise getting a complex!) Can't wait to see your final results!

hey frankie furter - guess what, i planted more grass yesterday! no milkbone trees in this heat, but hopefully some fresh grass in a couple of weeks will give our little cow sumptin to much on again.

hee - it probably helps to know Baxter is one of those deprived doggies who never gets fed anythin from the dinner table, so i'm pretty sure that's why he's so easily torn from hanging with us to watching for squirrels. He perks up after we're done dinner, cuz then he knows it is time for his. Molly, I am certain there is a LOT you could show this little shaver about how to be a real dachshund!!

oooh, groundhog holes! has ammo ever been, uh, successful?

oh oskar, baxter almost had a run in with a toad a few weeks ago when I wanted to plant some echinacea in a pot that previously held branches. we had to shoo chumley away before we could empty the pot, cuz the last thing we needed was a googly eyed doxie that just licked a toad!

So this is funny -- the romper I reconfigured is also from Target! lol I *adored* the print, but I am doxie-like in torso length, which rompers most definitely do not flatter.

@ Bludog: There's only one reason I can fathom Minnie ever having passed up the dinner table -- someone likely to give in to her begging *coughs*Grampy*coughs* was eating somewhere other than the dinner table.

Hi, Baxter!
My mom wishes we had here squirrels so I would not be begging for food while they eat!

As self proclaimed president of the neighborhood watch canine division I heartily agree that squirrel patrol is of the utmost importance. Sacrifices must be made in the name of duty!
