public service announcement: stinko de mayo

Why hello my friends, it's me, Baxter your roving rover reporter!  Today is the day we all celebrate the most glorious of stinky holidays, stinko de mayo!  And while it is a day of much fun and foofiefoolery, my toyfriends and I want to take a moment to remind everyone to please be considerate and stink responsibly.  Otherwise, you might get in trouble with your mom and not be able to celebrate it at all in the way that u would like to. And be stuck with a lot of leaky cans of foofie that u cannot even take to school on account of having already been warned by your teacher to clean up your lockers because of the stink from the secret tadpole tank u are keeping at school for the little misses because their mom did not want them to keep any more tadpoles than they already have at home. So, there you have it my friends.  Unleash the stink, but please,  this Stinko de Mayo, remember to stink responsibly.

My name is Baxter your roving rover reporter wishing you the super stinkiest of stinko de mayos :)

baxter & duk duk's manners matter for little puppies: corn on the cob

Excerpted from Baxter & Duk Duk's Manners Matter for  Little Puppies, page 229:

"little puppies may not know that plain corn on the cob is a special treat that should be treated specially. if you are lucky enough to be given corn on the cob, congratulations!  to prepare for this special event, always remember to wear a napkin around your neck and carefully tuck it into your collar.  the napkin is not only cute, but couthy, as it will help absorb any juices that may fall while you are eating your delicious corn on the cob.  do not forget to insert your special corn cob holders as this will make your cob look really cool when you are finished . try not to get all grabby but it is understandable and even supercool smart older dogs do it so do not feel bad.

corn on the cob may be eaten in many ways, but the best and fastest way will require your mom or dad to hold the cob, so it does not fall off the table and get the floor all corny. to eat corn on the cob, nibbling with your front teeth is highly recommended, but if you still have baby teeth, or if your baby teeth are loose, eat it however u r able and let the napkin catch anything u drop so that you can eat the corn droppings later.

also, try to eat every kernel and leave a nice neat cob as seen in the figure below.

after finishing your work on the cob, do not forget to eat anything that might have fallen, focusing first on the table surface and then on to your napkin, working your way down methodically to floor where you will probably find many corn droppings to eat as your dessert. speaking of droppings, pay special attention to your poopie after you have finished your corn as you will be in for another special treat that the authors will not spoil for you here. happy corn eating, little puppy friend!"

chapterhouse doxie

Yesterday tiny chumley seemed to make it his day's priority to get my attention.  Snackie after snackie, toy after toy, belly rub after belly rub, lap time after lap time, and even pooping after pooping, none of my basic responses seemed to really quell the burning desire that set tiny chumley's eyes ablaze.

I actually feel rather lucky that he and I share a rather generous user's manual when it comes to living together. I can tell without ever getting up from my desk if he is barking at a stranger, a cat, a bunny, or a little miss.  He knows when I am going to leave the house to run errands before I even do. A case of the zoomies? Someone forgot or was unable to take him out for his usual after lunchy lunch or early evening poopie. Tricks and mealtime training of course are so engrained now that he could and often does an autopilot routine, which I often interrupt and alter to keep things fresh and interesting.

He also usually knows when it is time to give up on me, when I am thick in the middle of makey project or some daft computer thing.  But yesterday was different.  There was something which he obviously felt we should be doing, if I could only understand what it was he was trying to tell me. And for that, I can only hope that he and I keep adding to chapters to our life's user's manual together, so that one day all of life's happy go lucky mysteries can be solved. :)

to whom it may concern

Today I had a blog post all planned out and had even started taking pictures for it.  But then I got tied up in a facebook copyright infringement request after learning that someone had used one of Baxter's images in a very disappointing way, to pander for more facebook likes on their page. A situation made more urgent by the numerous times the uncredited post had already been shared.

I've often wished for a variety of solutions to fix this, to prevent all the varying degrees of unauthorized, thoughtless and uncredited copying and posting and reposting of tiny chumley's images.  And mostly, I wish that the folks who bother to make the time to repost other doxie images to the internet could see the value in using the time instead to focus on posting about their own little loyal and loving four legged low rider friends.  Baxter lives here, at this address in the internet world.  His uninterrupted story, the depth of our love for him, and his often silly yet earnest observations on life as shared with his toyfriends - it all here in Kalyxcornucopia world, and will always be here for old friends to visit and new friends to discover, even years after I won't be able to take pictures of him anymore.  I only wish the same could be said for all the little sausagey boys and girls out there whose stories are left untold. :)

sign language

dear diary,
you know how somedays u think u are so luckee because you wake up and find out from your mom that u can stay home from school, but then u find out the reason why is because the tushie man is coming to give you a three year rabies shot and then u do not feel so lucky after all?  well, today is one of those days.   and since he will probably be working close to u know what and i might be too excited to remember to say anything beforehand, i figured it was very important to make up and post a reminder for the tushie man where a reminder is most necessary.  i hope it does the trick.

toodleydoo!

math lesson

There are times when I can tell that tiny chumley wishes he were twice as big, so that maybe the world that walks by his window would take him twice as seriously.  But then I'd be stuck in the unfortunate position of having to tell him that two times cute still only equals double cute. :)

ps - doot doot doot! just in time for Mother's Day - the rainbow double litter of doxie necklaces are ready for adoption! :) --> http://etsy.me/1pbH28z

less than stinky :)

tiny chumley's plump little butterball tushie hasn't graced us with a p-eeeeeeeew in quite a while, I've realized recently.  And if I were a better record keeper, what I am about to say might be said with greater certainty, but I'll say it just the same - it seems to me that Baxter outgrew the p-eeeeew stage between the ages of 5 and 6 years old, the same as his distant brothers before him, Kep and Padua.

Whether the cessation was coincidence, an actual bodily rite of passage, better tail management, or perhaps a side effect of having taken prednisone for one reason or another by that age, I'll never know.  But I know that we are all happier to leave the p-eeeeews behind, most of all mister fastidious, who - despite his love of all things stinky - always seemed so apologetic when his tushie made a p-eeeew, and with great determination, he would lick and lick and lick and lick and lick any affected areas, even after my thorough washings removed what I thought to be all traces of that special kind of tushie stink.

Today tiny chumley and his less than stinky, plumpy round tushie will be back on his yellow tuffet, helping me work on our Etsy listings for the rainbow litter of doxie necklaces.  And if all goes well, you just might hear the distant sounds of a doot doot dooty doot from u know who. :)
