sentinel
There's a reason why the little kielbasa is willing to forego his daytime naps right now. Why he is willing to stare faithfully outside the back window like a steadfast soldier for most of the day whilst perched atop his little orange tuffet, patiently waiting for the planets to align.
Squirrels of course, will do, but it's the bunny sightings that really make his day. And if he is really lucky, if I or his dad can suit him up in his blaze orange duds and unlock the door fast enough, he blasts off like a bottle rocket into the backyard, focused on a misguided mission targeting the places where he remembers the bunny to have been on previous encounters, rather than immediately going to the place where he just spied his cottontailed friend.
Baxter's reliably happy go lucky tracking strategy often gives me time to go back inside to get the camera after I've launched the little kielbasa cannon. But I, too, seem to be cut from the same "seconds too late, a few kibble bits short" fabric of our lives, which explains why this video starts just moments after Baxter flushed his bunny from its hiding place, and the little kielbasa yips with ear piercing delight while the object of his desire had already scampered safely away. :)

Baxter!
I really love to see you in action!
I hope you found him!
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
OMG ... that tail ... I am in love with that tail wagging a mile a minute. The yip was rather exceptional in my book too. Now Baxter.. what happens if you "get" the bun bun?
go get 'em, baxter!
we don't have very many bunnies in our yard, and we don't have a fence, so i can't play tag with them like you can - jealous! so i have to make do with chasing daddy around the yard. but that's no fun 'cuz he's too easy to catch!
-ramsay
awwww- lucky! I wish I had a yard with bunnies in it! I have to settle with chasing bunnies at the park and the park is like a million steps away!
Lucky!!!
hee hee no i did not lorenza. but that is what another day is for!
ooo, well i dunno miss hannalei. i think i will take him home and name him george and hug him and squeeze him and pet him! :)
well kona and ramsay, bunnies do not happen often in my yard either, which is why i am so taking advantage of my lucky streak! butchoo know in a pinch u can always chase bugs n squirrels n lizards right? cuz i have totally done that b4. it's just not as squeeful. but maybe sometime u can come to my house and we can watch 4 bunnies 2gether! :) b
Please note that if you have dogs, don't play this with the sound on as they will all hear Baxter talking about bunnies and start saying "Where?!? Where are the bunnies?!?", or at least our 2 Jack Russell kids did!
hee hee mister bob peters, please send them to my yard because i think between the three of us we have a shot at cornering this wascally wabbit! and then we can ask him if he knows bugs bunny!
As you know, I've got my hands full ensuring that neither Honey or Molly gets close enough to catch one of the myriad baby bunnies or baby squirrels infesting our block right now. And we've had some very close calls. But the next time we go out, if there's not a new sighting, Honey will always check back at the spot where she last nearly caught a critter. Her memory is amazing - it can be overnight or even a couple of days, but she remembers. We should have named her Diana, as in the Huntress.
Whoa, Baxter! You look like a huntin' hound dog, tearing around like that! That kwazy wabbit...
Oh yes, these are the sights and sounds of the great bunny hunt in our old backyard. Oskar heard Baxter's voice on the computer and knew right away what the deal was. Too funny!
One time the bunny stopped just a few feet away from me and we both watched as Oskar ran around sniffing. Totally a Bugs Bunny moment.
Wow, Baxter! How fast can you run????
Paw hugs & licks,
Riley Mae
ooh miss bludog, me so wants to hang with your pack and go the places u go!! :)
hee hee, mom thinks i could be a little more focused miss taylor lynn, but what fun is that? :)
oh yes, bunny alert! bunny alert! i hope oskar is staying cool today. here it is very hot and mom is making me take a nap. :)
well miss riley mae, i have never measured it, but both duk duk and me agree that it must be a good gajillion miles per hour, cuz not only am i kibble fueled, but i am also very much gas powered if u know what i mean! :)
And here I thought Milo's sniffer was broken...so glad that Baxter does the same thing with the bunnies in his yard.
Dear sweet Baxter, if you ever want to have a sleep over here with Milo - you're more than welcome - you'd especially enjoy it since we have a Momma Bunny setting up house in the smack middle of our yard!
Lulu still remembers where the kittens were hiding in the drain a year ago so I can only imagine how she would be with bunnies. Your yard is lovely!
oh cute little baxter, you ARE a bunny! a bunny with sweet floppy ears. we love seeing you on your wabbit hunts. hope you catch one someday soon... the dream of every little dachshund!
oooh me so want to bring my pup tent and camp at your place miss whit!! :)
thank u miss elizabeth! i think my yard still needs a few more bunny trap holes so i am working on it. :)
thank u mistermiss anonymous!! though i try not to think about it too much because if i really wear a bunny, well i guess i'd have to chase myself!! :)
