With all the transgendered dressing the little kielbasa has done lately, it seemed only right to spend some time making my tiny boyfriend something a little dude-lier for Valentine's day. Something with a slight edge to show the world his warrior side.
Now, goodness knows what the person was thinking who bought the silvery mesh shirt I found at the thrift store, but it's nice to know that they came to their senses and donated it. Awful for a man to wear, but great for a faux chain maille dapper doxie dud of dudely proportions.
Snaps and copper wire help make his layered frayed canvas wings both bendable and removable, as any self respecting warrior knows there are times when he must operate incognito. Posing, perhaps, as a knight of the crusades in his medallion embellished harness.
A studly collar, cut down with scissors from a thrift store belt, completed the little warrior's look.
It's funny, the things doxies can figure out without being told. Unlike all the girly harnesses he's worn, as soon as I put all this gear on little kielbasa, he knew it was his to wear with pride. I am warrior, hear me woof!

AHHH!! I love it! I am trying to learn to sew, beyond dog beds, and its because of the amazing harnesses that you create! I will admit, its been a heck of a challenge but every harness you make is a total inspiration to keep trying! Though my free hand stencils leave a lot of room for laughter I don't want to give up! I have got to find a pattern to tackle them and the skills to sew following a line or an approximate line! You and Baxter are motivation!
thanks! i always say, it has to start somewhere, so do give it a try. my early ones like baxter's blaze orange harness are way more warty, but i like to call it character.
did you see this post? I think most folks have luck with the kwiksew one. the hillary duff one needs to be blown up for it to fit a doxie, unless yours is like chihuahua sized

You Go Doxie Warrior! We doxies need a handsome hound like you to maintain the objective of TOTW! Sasha (Warrior Princess in training)
Yes! A Dachshund Warrior all the way. Super job!!!
Love the close up details, especially what look to be Miraculous Medals included! An additional St. Michael the Archangel would be quite fitting also. Beautiful as always!!

Amazing! Thank you! I got your response on mine! I'll definitely start looking at harnesses, the one you posted is no longer available on mccalls site! This weekend I'll familiarize myself with pattern shopping! Thank you!! :)
We'd love to see Baxter in flight. And that belt as a collar is genius.
You were beautiful wings ... as always a dog / special model ...
hey toddnjami - just so you know, kwiksew practically never goes on sale, and at least here is only sold at Hancocks, not Joann. But wanna know the best part - you don't have to go to any of these stores with all the stuff being on the internet. Shop in your jammies to find the pattern number, and if you do find one in Butterick/McCalls/Simplicity, know at some point these patterns ALWAYS go on sale at some point at these stores for either 1.99 or lucky day - 99 cents. Vogue on sale goes for 3.99. I love the sales because it makes any lackluster results much less painful to swallow.
oh hey so is there really a st michael medal out there? I only stumble across medals at the flea market, but should probably keep a look out. St Francis is always a good one, but for some reason they don't pop up as often. I mean, I know I could find one on ebay or something, but usually the price is right at the flea market.
Hi, Baxter!
Sure you knew it was specially for you!
It is pawesome!
Kisses and hugs

Totally, 100%, jealous!!! We wish we could get our mom to make us something as awesome as your wings! We are always trying to convince her we're angels. Too bad she has very, very, very limited sewing skills. She nearly bled to death while trying to sew a button back on her shirt. This project would do her in for sure. Glad you look super handsome though. Rock on sir knight!

:) you're not alone. i've done a bit o bleeding in the name of sewing, thanks to my carelessness with a rotary cutter. thankfully my finger print came back, that's all I've got to say about that ;)
I love this! I am a new Doxie owner and have been perusing blogs of others for advice and support, I hope you do not mind :) My little Dexter needs to have an educated mama!
hi tiffany! welcome. i can't wait to hear more about dexter! :)
