laundry day

Sixty-nine degrees out, the lady said on the radio when tiny chumley burrowed himself deep inside the steaming pile of linens that he found fresh from the dryer on the kitchen floor.

ahhh, thanks for covering me with your down jacket, mom. if anybuddy calls for me can u please tell them that i am busy?  :)

Something tells me that this is going to be a very long winter for one little sausage boy.

sunday drive

ooo ooo r we going for riders?? sorry i cannot visit now.  i must pay attention to where we are going and sit very tall so the snackie lady can see me when we go thru the chik-fil-a drive thru!

- baxter, 4.75 years old,  on staying focused for his rideys but unaware that his favorite drive thru is closed on sundays. (but don't worry, he had a very fine time sniffing snackies at the pet store instead. :) )

the pact

Baxter and I have a pact.  That he will never leave me and I will never leave him.  And I know it's official, because we shake on it every day.  Shaking multiple times, using both paws and hands to be extra sure and even sealing it with a snackie and a kiss. Because it is that important.  Because it simply has to be.

Yet despite our best efforts, I know there will come a day when one of us won't be able to hold up our end of the bargain.   When one of us must say goodbye and join his brothers before him.  But I hope it is not for a very very very very long time.

Rest in peace, sweet Maggie, and the warmest of hugs to Joey and his dad.

diggereedo

I suppose I will never know why it is that tiny chumley enjoys digging in the dirt, taking pause every so often to deeply inhale the freshly disturbed soil as though it were a freshly baked loaf of bread, and getting his nose so encrusted with dirt that he himself becomes the relic in need of archeological excavation.

mom, really?  a bath?  but i haven't even reached the center of the earth yet and at this rate i will never reach australia by noon 2morrow much less africa by dinner time!

tiny visitor

Two little kielbasas frolicked in our house yesterday afternoon, goofing about and getting plenty of snackies and catching up as only little dachshunds do, til finally both were tuckered out and it was time for Baxter's little friend Lulu and her mom to go home.

goodbye lulu but not for lo-ooong! i cannot wait til u come back next month to spend a few days with us and if u cannot wait either u are always welcome to spend the day with me and we can drink monkey chow milkshakes and play on the wii with duk duk n lil pink puppy n chocobot! :) :)

a separate peace

Tiny chumley knows little about the moments in life for which we must pause and reflect.  And, I must admit, I rather hope it stays that way.

yippee yesirree!

Santa's little helper not only helped me upload his happy new double sided Naughty or Nice Christmas card to Etsy recently, but he also decided it was high time he had more say in the dapper doxie dud creative process.

mom, tiny chumley proclaimed as he plunked down his contribution while I took pictures of necktie dud combinations for blue's mom's consideration, me definitely thinks that this could use some pink polkadot sheep, dontchoo?

Well I'll be.  Yes baby dog, I do believe it does. Now how bout we get a snackie to celebrate? :)

yippee yesirree! :) :)

a place for everything

I am hopeful that everything will eventually find its place once the dust settles and my crafty space is reorganized, but there is one little pumpkin who has already made it clear that his needs must be met first.

mom, dontchoo think a nice bed and snackie shelf will be perfect here under your desk so i can keep u company while u work? :)

messopotamia

So long as there are little pathways and rabbit tunnels for Baxter to navigate his world, I think by now tiny chumley is hardly ever phased at what goes on in his house.  But right now the mounds of stuff are even more moundy than usual, thanks to my determined and much needed effort to make the time to reorganize and restructure my crafty space.

Even though stuff is everywhere, I can hardly find a thing at the moment, save for a little four legged boy who patiently waits for the day when his mom is done moving stuff and making noise with the vacuum cleaner.  With any luck (and a little help from IKEA), Baxter and I will resume our crafty adventures sometime next week, but in the meanwhile, my patient boy makes do, playing and living in messopotamia.

oooh mom can me n duk duk play hide n seek with chocobot n lil pink puppy in here? there are so many more places to hide now!!

everybuddy knows u do not pass up a watermelon snackie opportunity

dear diary,
mom says no matter where she looks, she always manages to find something that reminds her of me.  which i guess is why she came home from her bizcation thifty store adventures with a super cool toy dog n duk  (hee hee, remind u of anybuddies?), a roly poly circus bear, a softball, and a giant letter b.   all things i cannot wait to share with duk duk n chocobot n lil pink puppy because we were just talking about playing roly poly circus bear softball tag during recess tomorrowbut seeins how we did not have a roly poly circus bear or a softball or the letter B or a super cool toy dog n duk to serve as goalies, all we would  really be doin is talking and not playin if u know what i mean.  til now that is, now that we have everything to play it with.  well, now after i finish my watermelon snackie.  because watermelon snackies are yummy and everybuddy knows u do not pass up a watermelon snackie oppportunity.  even if it means roly poly circus bear softball tag must wait.  but do not worry diary, i will be finished soon and u can play with us too if u want! just be sure to meet us by mister turtle's secret playground hideout and bring your own oven mitt. i cannot wait til recess!!  :)

wooty patootie

I remember last year when Robin and I started our journey to Bucktown and stumbled upon our first Goodwill Outlet.  We were looking for lodging for the night when I spied what I thought was a regular Goodwill store stuck in the corner of a decaying strip mall.  Lodging could wait, we agreed.

And as you might imagine, our lives were forever changed by what I can only describe as a magical visit to the island of misfit toys.  Second chance stuff from other Goodwills, sold for pennies by the pound.  Yeah, you know we would be visiting these places again.

Today, a tiny peekypoo at some of the scores from our return visit, mixed in with a scores from other thift stores we visited as well on our way home.  So many places, so little time and space.  And yet I am pining four our next by the pound adventure.

next time mom, can u find a scooby doo for duk duk too?? :)

souvenir

Prancing about with skippy toes, tiny chumley spent his Sunday morning in expectant glee, certain as he was that there was bound to be something coming out of my car that was most definitely for him.  A souvenir from wherever that place is that mom goes to where she comes back smelling like friendly people, other dachshunds, thrift stores and the kitty cats at Auntie Robin's house.

mom i know u did not buy me these garbage bags full clothing and books and stuff, the little kielbasa's eyes told me as I laid out bag after bag on the garage floor.

Sorry baby dog, I started to say in hopes of distracting him so that his surprise would not be spoiled by early detection.  Why don't you go back inside and we can find your present la-

ooooOOOoooOOOOoooooooo - scooby scooby wooty doooooooooo! proclaimed tiny chumley as he tugged at his prize.

And off the little kielbasa darted with his newly snitched toyfriend.

thanks mom! i cannot wait to show duk duk n chocobot n lil pink puppy!! :)

bunny

Different images, I am sure, fill the album of Baxter's mind. Like the rabbits of spring, who dine by the front window serenaded by the high pitched anguished barks of a boy who is unable to touch the picture before him. It has been a while since a bunny has visited so closely by the little kielbasa's window, but he perch he does every day, ever hopeful for his bunny to return. :)

tres amigos

A semi-retro rewind today, pictures of Lily and Marshall when Baxter was hosting them for the weekend, and the back story of how many pictures and more it actually might take before finding that perfect picture, that proverbial needle in the haystack. :)

frogs and snails and puppy dogs' tails

I'm not sure what I find more endearing with the little kielbasa, the fact that he could care less how dirty he gets in the name of the chase, or his relentlessly optimistic belief that there is always a squirrel or bunny or turtle to be found just around the corner. There are so many things in life that are so uncertain, yet here the little kielbasa stands, ever ready and waiting, certain that he will one day find what he is looking for.
