rideys with baxter: no no, thank You!

Hello! It's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter, reporting to you again from the Wiener Dog Festival while my mom is still scratchy scratchy.  As hard as it is for me to believe, here at the Wiener Dog Festival, I learned that some doxies do not like their tushies sniffed.

And some doxies, well they do not even like their brother's tushie to be sniffed. Even when you have his brother's permission.

Lucky for me, mom provided enough of a distraction that I could get the data I needed, and I even figured out a better way to collect it!

So with my newly invented stink trail survey technique, not only could I do my research in secret, but it also went a lot faster.

In fact, it was so fast, I even had time to share a little stink of my own, and I was in the perfect place where it could be enjoyed by all.

In my next post I will tell you about my very special new friend Emil, and a few more interesting from the Wiener Dog Roast .  This is Baxter your roving rover reporter,  wishing you a Foofieriffic Friday! :)

rideys with baxter: reporting tips, and the one that got away

Hello again my friends, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter, picking up from Tuesday's story here at the Wiener Dog Roast! Now, as you might recall,  my trip here was a stroke of some mighty good luck because I need to do some sniffing research for me and duk duk's next super secret project. And, as any good reporter will tell you, the key to a good story (or in my case, a good sniff) is all about getting a good tip.

Like this one, from my new friend here who was waiting in line for some super swell doggie ice cream.  Do not tell mom but I snitched a taste from a cup I found on the floor by the man who was drawing caricatures, and I must say, it was delicious!

Anyhoo, every good reporter also knows that patience is sometimes key.  Because once I was situated by the doors where my friend said there was some good sniffing, well wouldn't you know it, but by the time I got there,  I think everybuddy had been all sniffed out.  And everyone was on their way to browse and shop all the fine goodies inside.

Well,  except for a couple of fellas, who decided it not only would they shop inside, but also poop inside on the soft soft carpet.  I would have taken pictures of that for you but you already know how that goes.  But let me tell you, their poopie snakes were impressively massive.  Like, level three poopmaster black belt massive. With a nice woody top note, and cardamom and leather mid notes.  I could not tell you the dry down because unfortunately their mom and dad cleaned it all up before then.  But I bet it would have been fantastic, and its sillage very long lasting.

Some of the doxies I met were not quite ready to participate in my survey, which was just as well in retrospect,  since I might have caught some girl cooties and that would have totally thrown my nose off.

Not all the tushies I missed out on were girls though.  Well, for all I know this could have been a girl, but I still call this one, "The One That Got Away".  Something tells me that tushie would have smelled absolutely divine.

Tomorrow, I will report to you with more scenes from the Weenie Dog Roast.  If I do not find another nice patch of sun that is. But I will try my best not to. This is Baxter your roving rover reporter wishing you a Thoroughly Thuper Thursday!! :)

rideys with baxter: eau de tushie

Hello my friends, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter. Through my super sleuthy scenting techniques, I've just discovered I am at a weenie dog festival and you know what that means...

let's hurry up and get there!

Now, as any of you who have attended a weenie dog festival might know, it is best to keep your paws free so you can be prepared for just about anything.  So today, I am going to put away my iphoney reporting gear and bring out my bluetooth mic.  Oh and I think I've run across my first interviewee for me and duk duk's super secret project...(fumble fumble) Okay I think I got this thing to work.  Please let me know if the volume is too high.

Hee hee, one doxie tushie down, so many more to go.  Sometime soon I hope to tell you more about me and duk duk's super secret project, but in the meanwhile, tomorrow I will share more pictures and tales from my visit to the weenie dog festival.  And if you happen to have any questions about adopting this cute and friendly little fella (whose tushie smells fantastic by the way),  please contact the folks here  or visit their facebooky and tell them he was at the Weenie Roast and hopefully they can help get you connected.  This is Baxter your roving rover reporter, wishing you a totally tooteriffic Tuesday! :) :)

rideys with baxter: o the places we could go!

Hello my friends, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter, filling in for my mom all this week while she's battling the itchies off and on.  Today and for the next few days, I want to tell you all about the fun I had a ver special event I attended.  Which I had no idea I was going to till we got there.

In fact, for a while there, I was all, hey, where are we going? are we going to the circus so i can smell some elephant poop?  ooh, or maybe the zoo so i can smell some elephant poop! or maybe the farm so i can smell some cow poop and if i am lucky and nobuddy is looking, i can roll in it!

but... even though that all would be fun..  hmmmm..hmmmmm...is this car ridey a good idea?  because any day now our walrus is coming and i still have yet to finish digging his hole in my backyard...

but lucky for me, once we got there and the car door opened, I sniffed in the air and knew that this was going to be a good place to be :)

Tomorrow I will tell you exactly where I went and share with you some of the super sights and sounds I encountered so I hope you will visit me again tomorrow!  This is Baxter your roving rover reporter, wishing you a very merry Monday!! :) :)

scenes from a sunday brunch with an only dachshund: let's do halfsies :)

..and so the monkey said, "leave it? i thoughtchoo said throw it!"  hee hee, yeah i know, dad, that is a pretty funny joke isn't it?  one of the kids in school told it for show n tell but he got in trouble because during recess everyone including me thought it would be funny if we started throwing our --- oh, i see our waitress wants to take my order.  please excuse me...

no thank you, miss waiteress, i am sure your food is very delicious but today i brought my own food because i am on a diet and i want to be fit for this summer's hungry games.   but if you would leave me the bowl i see you have in your hands, i would very much appreciate it for use with my kibble.  :)

so anyway dad, speaking about this summer, i wantchoo to know that me and duk duk and chocobot and lil pink puppy all want to help you build a monorail in our backyard.  or maybe an air plane landing strip.  it is phase one of our twelve part summer plan.  which i wish i could tell you more about but it is top secret and only people with a need to know will know and even then they will know only what they need to know and nothing more.   it's that top secret.  oh, i hear our waiteress coming back.  boy that was fast!

oooOOOoooOOoooooo! mom, u got crispy corned beef hash with two poached eggs!! if u want maybe we go halfsies? i know she did not bring two forks but...hmmm,  here, hang on a sec, i got this...

you eat your half of the corned beef hash and in the meanwhile i will pour half my kibble in my bowl and u then can have the rest!! :)

i've pooped everywhere man

Why hello, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter.  Reporting to you today from one of my favorite places to bark at dogs and snitch floor corn, the flea market.  I'm here today not only bcuz it is such a wonderful day out, but because my friend Mister Randy is here and he is not only very interesting to visit with, but he always has such interesting things.  This is his booth, right here behind me.  Yeah, my dad is carrying me.

Now, you never know what you will find at Mister Randy's booth, butchoo can bet you will always find something.  I did.  But I cannot tell you about it just yet bcuz it is a surprise. But I can tell you that Mister Randy travels all over the backroads of our country and not only finds interesting things but interesting people and tasty food to eat, and he even posts very cool pictures about them on his blog, I've Been Everywhere Man, whichoo can also likey on Facebook as Jersey Picker.  Who knows, I might even show up on there soon bcuz as u can see in the lower left picture, he was trying to take a picture of me when I got all Barney Barko on a big dog that I spied just behind him.  Yeah I showed him. That big dog, not Mister Randy.

Anyhoo, I had a very fine time and I think you would too so if you have a flea market near you and the weather is nice, why not go for a walkie and talkie and if you are lucky, you might even get to make new friends as cool as Mister Randy.  Or at least sniff a new doxie tushie or two.

This is Baxter your roving rover reporter wishing you a very smelly Sunday! :)

can u smell the science all around me?

Beep beep boop. Beep beep boop..Why, hello my friends -  can u feel it? Can u smell the science all around me?  Can u taste it?? Cuz it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter reporting to you today from the confines of this very interesting and very white lab room. Which you are currently viewing on a monitor from the mom n dad waiting room.   I am here today to contribute my time and my tummy to science.  You see, some of u may remember that a couple years ago I went to the canine cognition center and I had a swell time taking tests that really didn't seem like tests at all.  In fact, they were so easy, it was like eating for free.  no work or nuttin.  And, I am glad to tell you that today's experience was just like that, only better, because the snackies just kept coming and coming and you can see in the image below that at times that I forgot all my training and did not sit or stay or anything, as excited as i was about finding the treats that they would hide under stuff.  And yet I still got snackies.  Which only makes me wonder why I have to wait and work so hard for them at home, but I guess that is a thesis I must work on for another day.

Anyhoo, these tests were a little different because they were prototypes and my participation would help refine each experiment.  And I was still fed the same if not more, which probably is why my mom didn't bother giving me lunch at all when I got home come to think of it, and to tell you the truth I didn't really even notice I did not have my usual lunch, as snackielicious as the study was.  Hard to believe, right? But the snackiefest was that fantastic.  Sorry Doctor Tushieman, but mom says I will be back on the diet wagon tomorrow and I promise I will do extra walkies to make up for it.

And I will be burning calories playing with this! My new squirrel buddy toyfriend, which I earned for my participation along with a writing pen that I let mom keep in her car cuz, well school is almost out and I do not want to see a pen again until September if u know what I mean.

So that was my Friday, and I am Baxter your roving rover reporter wishing you a super satisfying Saturday!!

tin men

dear diary,
guess what!!  yesterday i met opie and andy taylor, u know, from the andy griffith show,  but boy are they nothing like i thought they would be - in fact i think they might be robots, which would be really cool, but i think they have been standing outside for so long that they rusted stiff, just like the tin man. so next time we go to the park i think i will try to remember a can of oil and see if that helps, bcuz i really want opie to take me to his fishing hole and i can help him dig for worms.

anyhoo my walkie was very nice and i hope u had a nice walkie too!

toodley-doo!!

eat stink dog duk

Hey everybuddy, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter, reporting to you today about the weenie roast & adoption festival this past Saturday, which I didn't know was even happening til after me n duk duk set up our Stinko de Mayo Stinkebration.  So my first ever visit to the weenie roast was brief but very fun all the same because as you might imagine there was still plenty of stink to enjoy.  And I found a giant tray of what I think was weenie soup that totally wished I could have enjoyed too but mom said I had to choose between it or Stinko de Mayo so I told my tummy sorry and moved on bcuz I heard my friend Miss Mandy from The Green Olive Pet Company might be there and I wanted to say hi before we ran out of time.

Anyhoo, this is me, excited and happy to be standing line for what I thought was the Poopley's Believe It or Not Giant Poopie Snakes of the World exhibit.  Bcuz u know, shouldn't every weenie festival have that?

But, just like the fella behind me, I was very disappointed to find out it was only a line for buying tee shirts.  The tees were cool and my dad bought one but still, u know.  Giant Poopie Snakes of the World Exhibit...

Lucky for me I did not have to stay disappointed for very long because even though I never did run into Miss Mandy,  I ran into the giant box of kibble samples that Miss Mandy left for everybuddy and I got to take one.  I have not tried it yet but before u fall over in disbelief let me tell u where mom and dad took me next.

YESSSsss, strawberries! And the best part? We really did not have to pick them bcuz the strawberry farm already had picked ones u could buy so while I stayed in the car with my dad, mom got us a gimungous flat and next thing u know we were all headed back home and yeah you know I had to rest up on the ride back because not only were we going to raise a lot of stink once I got home, but there was going to be lucha and everything.

This is Baxter your roving rover reporter hoping you had just as wonderful a weekend! :)

i've pooped everywhere man

dear diary,
well diary, even though the trip back home was pretty boring, me n duk duk n chocobot n lil pink puppy are back home now safe n sound and can u believe we traveled over two thousand miles?  which is really cool becuz that means i have traveled over twelve thousand miles now, and duk duk thinks that means i've pooped practically everywhere on earth and so now for our new years resolution and thanks to some inspiration we found on the way back home, me n duk duk are going to try and send a poopie snake into outer space - u know, 2 like the moon or sumptin.  we both think it will be a lot easier and cheaper than trying to send a monkey like we tried to last year.

anyhoo, i hope i can stay awake in school today because me n duk duk are going to get up extra early to shine up my tushie bling cuz heck yeah u know all the kids are gonna wanna see.  and we might even try to charge admission because even though project poopie snakes in space will be cheaper than project monkeys in space, duk duk think it will still cost a tiny fortune so the sooner we start fundraising the better, dontchoo think?

toodley-doo!

sunday drive

ooo ooo r we going for riders?? sorry i cannot visit now.  i must pay attention to where we are going and sit very tall so the snackie lady can see me when we go thru the chik-fil-a drive thru!

- baxter, 4.75 years old,  on staying focused for his rideys but unaware that his favorite drive thru is closed on sundays. (but don't worry, he had a very fine time sniffing snackies at the pet store instead. :) )

wooty patootie

I remember last year when Robin and I started our journey to Bucktown and stumbled upon our first Goodwill Outlet.  We were looking for lodging for the night when I spied what I thought was a regular Goodwill store stuck in the corner of a decaying strip mall.  Lodging could wait, we agreed.

And as you might imagine, our lives were forever changed by what I can only describe as a magical visit to the island of misfit toys.  Second chance stuff from other Goodwills, sold for pennies by the pound.  Yeah, you know we would be visiting these places again.

Today, a tiny peekypoo at some of the scores from our return visit, mixed in with a scores from other thift stores we visited as well on our way home.  So many places, so little time and space.  And yet I am pining four our next by the pound adventure.

next time mom, can u find a scooby doo for duk duk too?? :)

still life

dear diary,
yippee! it turns out i am visiting my auntie robin and her family and u know what that means - kitty treats of a most delicious kind! well, i am hoping so but i see they put the treasure box way up high and boo hoo that means i cannot serve myself. anyhow do not let this picture fool u, i am having a wonderful time.  but mom kinda thought this picture was cool and so it is my picture of the day.  that is kerny, honeybear n sammy's brother, u know, the one that was givin me the stink eye last time i visited.  we get along fine but in a i have to keep my distance sort of way, which is sorta why we do not look at each other.  it works pretty well though i am glad i have pictures of him so i can see what he really looks like.

anyhoo, today i think i am helping everybuddy paint a room! won't that be exciting? mom said i could help paint all the baseboards on accuont of how low i am.

i hope u r having a wonderful sunday!!

toodley-doo,
b :)

little red riderboy

dear diary,
can u believe no sooner than me n duk duk turned off the tv after the royal kiss that mom packed me up for a really long ride?  i know we are going somewhere good cuz there is a lot of stuff in the car including my travel kennel.  where do u think we will be going? i am hoping to the kibble food factory cuz i hear u can sample everything at the end of the tour and u can even go for seconds! or if not there, then maybe mom will be taking me to the smithsonian cuz i hear they have  real dinosaur bones and when nobody is looking maybe i can snitch a lick or two.

well i guess i will find out soon enough, but for now, i suppose i will take me a little nap.  so, if u happen to see anything interesting, take a picture for me, will ya?

toodley-doo!

rainbow connection

A picture from our wonderful walkies yesterday, complete with sunshine, rainbows, and my little pot of gold.

pot of gold? sheesh, mom. couldn't u call me a mega power transformatron or sumptin?? cuz i was thinkin aliens were totally gonna come out from that light and i was gonna stop em with my stink ray!

knick knack paddy whack

It has been eons since the little kielbasa has been out for a bit of socialization , and it showed the moment we walked into the pet store yesterday.

brip! skitter. browf! sniff. bow wow wow 2 u, daycare doggies behind the glass! yikes - what was that noise?? i'm keepin my tail tucked. training, what training? that was years ago. let's get outta here now please! i'll lead the way, mom, and i will cover us with my barking!

The little kielbasa's protests resonated as we walked throughout the store, the echoes making it seem like there were a growing battalion of noisy wiener dogs.

Sigh. There was no way I was going to let tiny chumley leave the store in such a state, yet the lunchtime kibble I brought wasn't enough of a lure to get Baxter settled and focused.

And then we came upon the aisle of plenty.

ooooooo. brip. well if u - sniff sniff - okay, hang on a sec. bwoof! okay, i'll take this one. and i can totally carry it myself, see mom?.

We sauntered pass the little white fluffy dog with nary a peep. Stood silently by the fish tanks while we waited for the Jack Russell Terrier and his mom to check out. Ignored the cooing crowd who wanted to admire Baxter's bone stogie carrying ways.

sorry. no time for barking. on a mission now, thanks. sniff ya later.

And this small dog went quietly home. :)

wiener dog festival 2010

Hey, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter reporting to you again today from the wienerdog festival. The weather here is really nice and you know what that means, tons of doxies and their humans showed up! Now, any self respecting doxie knows that there are three things every dog should do at gatherings like this.

1) Smell butts - lots and lots of butts!

2) Ignore everybody who wants to pet you and search the floor for delicious dropped edibles!

3) Bark your head off! Yeah, that was me between barks.

Now accomplishing all three tasks effectively doesn't always leave a lot of time for other things, but if you're super efficient, there are plenty of other things you can do to keep your human happy at the festival. Like parade them around in the costume contest (this year a skunk dog won but there were so many cute costumes I am sure it was hard to choose), take them thru an obstacle course(hardly anybody wanted to go thru the tunnel, can u believe it??), and let them watch you bob for hot dogs! Yep, that's right, hot dogs! I kinda missed that part on account of my overindulging on step 3 a little bit too much, but I heard it was really fun and tasty too! And oh yeah, there's best trick, and longest doxie, and oldest doxie, and doxie who traveled the farthest to get there, and all sorts of stuff. And even raffle baskets - that's where the duds my mom donated, boy with the dragon tattoo and mission missoni, ended up. Mom was so busy chit chatting and not taking pictures that she didn't get to see who won the baskets, but she sure hopes the lucky winners find a happy hound who can wear them!

Now the best part about having been to this festival before is that u can catch up with old buddies and make new ones! Like my neighbor buddy Pretzel, who had lots of fun with the obstacle course, and little Zelda, so much bigger now and so cute in her crayon costume that her mom made her! Zelda almost won musical sit but she was runner up, which is still pretty good in my book, especially with all the commotion goin on. And of course I met up with Cricket n Pepper (ha, mom only got a fuzzy picture of half of that fun pair, and she blames it on me for the barkin!), and Lily and Marshall. And there met up with new buddies Caesar n pumpkin dog (I don't remember her name but her butt smelled wonderful!) and a little blue that I thought might be Charlie but u know the harness was pink so maaaybe not now that I think of it. And tons of other fun doxies and their humans - so many I sorta lost track but I was so glad to meet each and every one of them!

Whew. Well believe it or not I was super tuckered out from the festival, so if you're looking for a good way to tire out your own little wiener dog, I'd say this is totally one super fun way to do it. This is Baxter your roving rover reporter, hoping to see you at your next wiener dog festival! :)

the paw paw trail

Hello, it's me, Baxter, your roving rover reporter reporting to you today from my walkies to the park. Now, I have to tell you this walkies wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be, cuz mom said something about how when we got there, we'd be picking up somebody named Nick, and I was like, what, who's this guy named Nick and who'd pick him anyway? Pick Nick? That totally sounded like a campaign slogan, and I'm too young to vote. Anyhoo, I tried my best to look for him, but I never did see this guy Nick. Still we managed to have a very fine time without him and I got to see like a jillion and one squirrels. Mom n dad had a fine time too, eating lunch at one of Nick's tables. Me, I was way too distracted by all the squirrel action to eat, especially since we walkied on a new trail - one that sounded like it was designed just for doggies like me, but boo hoo, the paw paw they were referring to was actually a plant or sumptin. It was still pretty nice so I can't complain. We must have walkied like a good three miles!

Well, I have to cut this report short because Duk Duk just told me he overheard mom talking about giving me a bath. If any of you can recommend a good hiding place, I'd be most appreciative. This is Baxter your roving rover reporter hiding out.
